Listen to Music Online With Naxos

Great news for music fans Christchurch City Libraries now subscribes to the Naxos Music Library. This enables you to listen to a fantastic range of music from your home computer or in any of our libraries.

Naxos Music Library is the most comprehensive collection of classical music available online. It includes the complete Naxos, Marco Polo and Da Capo catalogues of over 266,000 tracks, including Classical music, Historical recordings, Jazz, World, Folk and Chinese music. Whilst listening, users can read notes on the works being played as well as biographical information on composers or artists in Naxos's extensive database. 500 CDs are added every month.

While the primary focus is on the standard classical repertoire, Naxos has a solid range of jazz classics, some blues, rock and contemporary jazz and an extensive range of World music. A bit of exploring reveals an eclectic mix - Douglas Lilburn, the Nixons, Bullfrogs, Pete Seeger, and the Bushmen of the Kalahari.

Many of the recordings have comprehensive liner notes you can study while listening to the music. Other resources include opera synopses and libretti, composer and artist biographies.
